Where to Get Breakfast in Frankfort
Frankfort's breakfast spots run on their own schedules. Some open at 5 AM, some are done by 1 PM, and a few only open part of the week. Here is where to go and when.
Diners for a full plate
Melisa's Family Diner at 859 E Main St is the early one. It opens at 5 AM on Monday and 6 AM Tuesday through Friday, and it is closed on weekends. It wraps up at 2 PM most days (1 PM on Friday), so this is a weekday breakfast or an early lunch. Call (502) 699-2727 with questions.
Cliffside Diner at 175 Old Lawrenceburg Rd is a retro diner that has been feeding Frankfort for a long time. Breakfast here is a weekend thing: it's served only on Saturday and Sunday, from 8:30 to 11:30 AM. Locals also know it for cheeseburgers later in the day, and it is an easy place to bring kids. Questions? Call (502) 352-2454.
Main Street Diner at 227A W Main St is the one to remember when breakfast happens late. It opens at 8 AM every day and serves breakfast and burgers well past the morning rush, closing at 3 PM on Monday and 9 PM the rest of the week. It is downtown, so you can walk to the Old Capitol afterward.
Coffee and something quick
Engine House Coffee and Crepes at 307 W Main St opens at 6 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on Saturday, and it is closed Sunday. Along with espresso drinks, it makes crepes both sweet and savory, which turns a coffee stop into breakfast.
Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe at 235 W Broadway is the bookshelf-lined coffeehouse near the Old Capitol. It opens at 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends, and it has the most room to sit of any spot on this list, which helps if you want to linger or get some work done.
Bakeries with short hours
Andy's Artisan Bread at 127 E Todd St in South Frankfort bakes bread and pastries and does coffee and breakfast sandwiches. It is open Wednesday through Friday from 7 AM and Saturday from 8 AM, and it closes at 1 PM every day it opens. Go early on Saturday.
B's Bakery at 241 W Main St makes donuts and pastries from scratch and is only open Thursday through Saturday, 8 AM to 3 PM. The selection is best in the morning.
Poppy's Bakery at 865 Wilkinson Blvd is an old-school Frankfort bakery with donuts, cookies and decorated cakes. It opens at 6:30 AM on weekdays, 7 AM on Saturday and 8 AM on Sunday, and Sunday hours end at 11 AM. There is a drive-through if you are on your way somewhere.
Donuts at dawn
OMG Donuts at 930 Louisville Rd opens at 5 AM Tuesday through Sunday and closes at 2 PM. It keeps a wide spread of flavors and has a drive-through, which is why so many commuters and shift workers stop there. It is closed Monday. The number is (502) 352-7168.
Picking by day of the week
Monday has the fewest bakery options: Andy's, B's and OMG Donuts are all closed, so lean on the diners, Engine House or Poppy's. Thursday through Saturday is the best stretch for bakeries, though Melisa's is closed on weekends. Sunday is the hardest morning. Main Street Diner, Kentucky Coffeetree, Poppy's (until 11 AM) and OMG Donuts are your best bets.
